This will almost certainly be an important new activity in the dawning energy-constrained era of our world – Solar Thermal Power.

Of all the renewable technologies out there, solar thermal holds the biggest promise for seamlessly replacing fossil fuel generated base load electricity. Heat storage solves the intermittency problem associated with renewables, and the fact that solar thermal electricity is generated by steam turbines integrates nicely in a myriad ways with existing electricity production technology, including the ability to have a fossil-fuel backup heat source to keep the steam turbines running over any periods when total sunlight (plus heat in storage) might prove to be insufficient relative to demand.
